Is there a reason why the article in the sun-times fails to mention the many times the Jackson’s performed at the mill-run playhouse in Niles , il. They probably played that venue over 20 times from 1974 to 1979. They were as popular in the northern suburbs of Chicago as any of the venues you mentioned. Seems a shame you seemed to exclude this very important fact in there biography.
Yes, there is a reason, I asked Jackie and Marlon directly what were the places they visited and they didn’t mention the Mill-Run Playhouse. The article was based on the places they spoke about. This means that there were many places that didn’t get mentioned. In fact, if you saw the movie, they show The Regal Theater but not the other places Jackie and Marlon spoke about. I didn’t exclude the Mill-Run, they just didn’t include it.
They were so popular with everyone. Why would they exclude such a large segment of the population that really enjoyed there music and family struggles. I for one am disappointed that they think only the black community were their fans. They played to sold out concerts. Not a huge venue but still packed.
I’m not sure what venue you are referring to when you say “Not a huge venue but still packed.”
I was referring to the Mill Run Playhouse in Niles, IL, It had about 1600 seats in the round and hosted some of the biggest names in show business, look them up. Why they choose to excude a huge stepping stone in their career to you is baffling. When they first became popular their fanbase transcended their just being a group of black performers. It would seem that they were embarrassed to be playing in a suburban white neighborhood. Just the contrary.
If you ever have a follow-up to the info let me know. Thanks
I’m not sure how you arrive at they were embarrassed. I asked them specifically about Chicago, not the Chicago area and they answered accordingly. I guess you could blame the reporter, which is me, for not asking about other venues in the Illinois area but to conclude they didn’t want to talk about the Mill-Run is a stretch. I’m sure if you asked them about this specifically, they would have stories to tell – happily. All I can say at this point is thanks for being a part of their story.
